Don’t Let Failure be your Teacher!

I recently heard a minister say, “Don’t let failure be your teacher but give them to the undertaker.”  To expound this means let the things you failed at die or keep them in your past.

In the Bible, we read in Luke 18:1-8 about a widow who keeps going to the judge to avenge her and the judge keeps denying her request.  Each time she goes to him she receives a Failure response.

What are the failures replaying in your life?

  • I’ve done too much wrong

  • Who would want to be with someone like me

  • You are not eligible

  • Sorry you’re not good enough

  • You don’t meet the criteria

  •   I don’t want to be with you anymore

The widow in the Bible didn’t let the failure responses stop her from reaching her goal.  She kept going back to the judge despite his constant rejections.  Your response to failure must be the same.  You must realize you are the son or daughter of the Most High God who’s promises to you are Yes and Amen (2 Corin 1:20).

His word says – all things work together for good to those who love God (Romans 8:28)  If you love God failure is not a continual option for you, only Good.  All of the failures in your life will work for your good and one day you’ll look up and know why you failed.

Today I know why I didn’t pass the nursing exam.  I know why my kids’ father rejected me.  I know why when I accepted my divine calling, all of my failures are met with a smile .  My failures weren’t stepping stones for me to be ashamed of but stepping stones to turn me toward God.  At the end of the Bible story, the judge was overwhelmed by the widow constantly coming to him and not giving up. He surrendered to her appeal and the rejections turned around for her good.

In conclusion: Failure is a part of life, but it’s not who you are once you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

My prayer for you is:  Dear Heavenly Father, may the reader of this message receive how merciful you are to those who surrender themselves wholeheartedly to your son, Jesus Christ. May they be comforted in knowing you are a father to the fatherless and a friend to the friendless. I pray they’ll not focus on their past mistakes even if they were made today but look up to the hills from whence cometh their help, for their help cometh only from you (Psalms 121:1).  In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
